    Timejet Class

Spaceships of the Timejet Class are the fastest 
ships that have ever been built by advanced civilisations
in the universe.

They are very specialized instruments of modern inter-galactic
warfare because they are incredibly fast but are nearly unarmed 
and can carry hardly any cargo.
And that is all that they need for their missions which are
reconnaissance, rescue, sabotage and espionage.

The maximum speed of a Timejet Class ship is 0.997 times 
the speed of light. 
Because of this tremendous speed those ships can't be flown 
by a flight-computer. The electrical signals that run through a 
computer are only slightly faster than the speed of the ship, and
thus there would basically be no time for the flight computer 
to calculate the course.

Those ships are controlled offline, which means that the control 
code for the thrusters is pre-calculated and loaded into the 
engine control before the ship begins it's flight. This strategy leaves 
barely enough time to activate/deactivate the thrusters at the 
right moments.

Early tests with the timejet drive were done with offline 
flight-computers that pre-calculated the control code which 
unfortunately led to a total disaster. 170 pilots and engineers 
died before the timejet project was canceled due to unforeseeable
errors in the calculations. 
The scientists of the timejet project believe that these errors are 
due to non deterministic space-time shifts that arise when the ship 
gets close to the speed of light.

However the great war of Eridanus has caused the resumption 
of the timejet project, but now completely without any computer 
interaction at all. The whole control code has to be calculated 
by the pilot itself, because non-deterministic effects can only 
be conquered by non-deterministic actions. And it seems that the 
so called sixth-sense allows a human pilot to create a working 
control code whereas a flight computer would have crashed 
the ship. The move from computer-calculated control codes to
human pilots has dropped the error rate from 70% to 15%, so
obviously those ships are still very dangerous to fly, and only 
the best pilots are allowed to command them.
